All net proceeds from our online Bakery, during the month of April, will go to Operation SafeHouse. This month we are selling Artisan Bread, Cinnamon Rolls and more of our Challah Bread. Operation SafeHouse is the first line of protection in Riverside County when a teen runaway needs emergency shelter. This kind of emergency service is needed because runaway teens are scooped up by gang members to be sucked into the gang life, or sex trafficking, within the first 24 to 48 hours.
Why do they run away? "Verbal abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse before the age of 18 are all correlated with higher run away rates. 34% of runaway youth (girls and boys) reported sexual abuse before leaving home. 43% of runaway youth (girls and boys) reported physical abuse before leaving home. 80% of runaway and homeless girls reported having...been sexually or physically abused."
Operation SafeHouse is a 24-hour emergency shelter whose mission is to serve runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 11 – 17 in Riverside County. Services include three-weeks of emergency shelter, nutritious meals, counseling, attempts at family reunification [if appropriate], on-site education program, aftercare and a 24- hour toll-free crisis line.
Located in the heart of Riverside, accessible from any Safe Place location or Riverside Transit Agency bus (with free transit to Operation SafeHouse), runaway teens can get the help they need, get connected with teen counselors to bring on the positive, and steer themselves away from life as a street youth.
Please help us to help Operation SafeHouse in this first line of defense.
